Windows XP SP3 Update

It's been a little over two weeks since I wrote my entry about the problems that cropped up with the DXLabs Suite and Ham Radio Deluxe when I installed Windows XP SP3. In summary, both loggers lost all of their contacts (I had made backups, whew!), and both programs had reverted to default radio settings, ie no radio selected.

The reverting of radio settings to default was no big deal in HRD. Likewise it wasn't a huge headache in Commander (DXLabs). However, more aggravating were the oodles of settings that were lost, such as QSLing (LOTW and eQSL) and other settings throughout the DXLabs program that aren't always readily obvious. Check boxes here and there were altered. It took some time to get everything back to where I was used to it. I'm sure there's still some that I've missed.

That experience prompted me to jot down all of the important settings in the event that something like this should ever happen again. Fortunately, with HRD, I think I could wing it pretty easily without having all the settings handy.

I'm still bothered by the apparent loss of QSO's, what if I hadn't had a backup? But I guess all's well that ends well. I'm glad that I was a Dudly Do-Right and thought to make a backup a couple of days prior.

With that out of the way, I'll report that everything seems to work fine now and I've had no further mishaps since installing SP3.
